Thomas W. Theune, OD, FAAO graduated from Indiana University, School of Optometry and practiced clinical optometry in Colorado Springs for seven years. After experiencing his own vision loss, Dr. Theune chose to specialize in the field of low vision. The combination of optometric education, years of clinical and low vision experience, and empathy of vision loss creates a unique perspective in providing personalized low vision care.
Apart from providing low vision care for more than 25 years, Dr. Theune has also been named Colorado's Optometrist of the Year, obtained fellowship to the American Academy of Optometry and founded the SEE THE FUTURE Fund providing scholarships for Colorado's blind and visually impaired students. Dr. Theune is also part of a team that provides low vision care with the Colorado Low Vision Evaluation Clinic. This clinic, which is supported by the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, travels to all areas of the state to increase literacy through the availability of resources and services for Colorado’s school-aged low vision students.
